چکیده
We present the result of near-infrared and optical observations of the BL Lac object S5 0716+714 carried out by the KANATA telescope (Uemura et al. 2008 in these proceedings). S5 0716+714 has both a long term violent variability and a short-term variability. The shortest time-scale variability, so-called microvariability, provides a clue of the minimum size of the emitting region. Here, we report the detection of 15-min variability in S5 0716+714, which is one of the shortest time-scale in the optical and near-infrared variations observed in blazars. The detected microvariation had a small amplitude of 0.06±0.01 mag in V band and a blue color of ∆(V − J) = −0.03±0.01. The microvariation has a feature of “bluer-when-brighter” that S5 0716+714 has in the variation time-scale of several hours. We furthermore obtained the temporal variation of polarization associated with the microvariation. We revealed that the microvariation had a specific polarization component whose polarization degree was higher than that of the overall trend. These results suggest that the microvariability originated from a small and local region where the magnetic field is aligned.

Kinematic Study of the Blazar 0716 + 714
We determined the kinematics at the jet of 0716+714 from a re-analysis of multi-frequency VLBI data (5, 8.4, 15, 22 GHz) obtained during the last 10 years combined with data from the literature. For this intra-day variable blazar, only a lower limit of its distance is known (z ≥ 0.3). We find that 0716+714 is a relatively fast superluminal source (with a Lorentz factor of γ > 15), revising earl...
متن کاملThe BL Lac objects OQ 530 and S 5 0716 + 714 Simultaneous observations in the X – rays , radio , optical and TeV bands
We present the results of the BeppoSAX observations of two BL Lacs, OQ 530 and S5 0716+714, as part of a ToO program for the simultaneous observation at radio, optical, X–ray and TeV energies. Both sources are detected in the LECS and MECS, with S5 0716+714 visible also in the PDS band, up to about ∼ 60 keV. The X-ray spectra of both sources are better fitted by a double power–law model, with a...
متن کاملKinematic study of the blazar S 5 0716 + 714
We present the results of a multi-frequency study of the structural evolution of the VLBI jet in the BL Lac object 0716+714 over the last 10 years. We show VLBI images obtained at 5 GHz, 8.4 GHz, 15 GHz and 22 GHz. The milliarcsecond source structure is best described by a one-sided core-dominated jet of ∼ 10 mas length. Embedded jet components move su-perluminally with speeds ranging from 5 c ...
متن کاملXMM Newton Observation of Low Energy Peaked BL Lac Object S 5 0716 + 714
This paper contains spectral and temporal information obtained from analyzing BL Lacertae object S5 0716+71. The broadband spectral energy distribution of this object is known to have two components, with the synchrotron emission peaking in the optical and the higher energy component taking over at X-ray energies, believed to be of inverse-Compton origin. Here we analyze XMM-Newton observations...
متن کاملPeriodic Oscillations in the Intra - day Optical Light Curves of the Blazar S 5 0716 + 714
We present results of a periodicity search of 20 intra-day variable optical light curves of the blazar S5 0716+714, selected from a database of 102 light curves spanning over three years. We use a wavelet analysis technique along with a randomization test and find strong candidates for nearly periodic variations in eight light curves, with probabilities ranging from 95% to >99%. This is the fir...
